SIP UNIT KOTTAYAM

 

            Special Investigation & Protection Unit Kottayam abbreviated as SIP is a protection unit constituted under Kottayam High Range Circle for enquiring into special offences. Headed by Assistant Conservator of Forests the team consists of one Assistance Conservator of Forests, one Section Forest Officer, six Beat Forest Officer and one Driver. The unit as per the directions of Chief Conservator of Forests. Apart from enquiring into petitions and complaints and forest offences the unit is engaged is the rescue & rehabilitation of stranded wild animals and birds. The unit accords a top priority in the welfare of captive elephants and the implementation of the rules there in. The unit is engaged very often in the rescue of pythons, monkeys, jungle cat, toddy cats, barn owl etc. accords which gets stranded in habitated areas, accords medical veterinary treatments and release them in the natural habitats. Constant patrolling is done in the wet lands of Kuttanadu and nearly by which harbors a lot of resident and migratory birds.
